Transit

Ali Taptık's * Transit * is part of a valuable art project aiming to explore migration and cultural identity through five port cities: Liverpool, Naples, Istanbul, Gdansk, and Marseille, engaging with artists, experts, and “ordinary” people. Instead of an exhibition, this book, distributed in Liverpool, uses a foldable street map format with thirty images each, showcasing photographs of the five port cities. The resulting collection ultimately contains Taptık's personal experiences gained during his travels, meeting different people, and residing in different places without belonging, rather than the cities themselves. Photographer Ali Taptık visited five “marginal” cities: Liverpool, Marseille, Gdansk, Naples, and his hometown, Istanbul. His extraordinary images, a meditation on travel, loneliness, and love, were distributed in the form of a map around Liverpool.
