Accident and Fate

Since he began working in photography in 2001, Ali Taptık has been concerned with a semi-fictional, semi-autobiographical narrative of his life in Istanbul. Through portraits of people and places, he rediscovers a particular atmosphere and his own history. Beginning in 2004, this series explores the possible connections between accident and fate, questioning the individual's agency over their own life. His works exist in the dialectic of opposites, on the fine line between inside/outside and private/public. Taptık has relentlessly navigated the blurred boundaries of inner and outer space, and his photographs are like windows onto the world within a mirror.
